What PRP is
PRP means platelet-rich plasma. A small amount of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors. This is then placed into the thinning areas of the scalp with fine needles.
At The Skin Lab we use a double-spin preparation, and the whole visit usually takes under an hour.
Who it suits best
PRP works best for early to moderate thinning, where hair roots are still present: a widening parting, a thinning crown, or a receding hairline in its early stages.
It cannot grow hair on areas that are completely bald. In that case, a hair transplant may be the better option, and your doctor will tell you honestly.
Sudden or heavy hair fall can have other causes, such as thyroid problems, low iron or recent illness. Your doctor may suggest tests first.
How many sessions, and when you see results
Usually 3 to 4 sessions, about a month apart, followed by maintenance sessions every few months.
Many people first notice less hair fall, then thicker-looking hair over 3 to 6 months. Results vary from person to person.
Boosters: microneedling, GHK-Cu and exosomes
PRP can be combined with microneedling, a GHK-Cu (copper peptide) booster or exosomes for a stronger effect. Your doctor will advise which level is worth it for your hair.
Prices at The Skin Lab
PRP Rs 3,500 · PRP + Microneedling Rs 7,000 · PRP + Microneedling + GHK-Cu Booster Rs 12,000 · PRP + Exosomes Rs 25,000 per session.
